The opportunity to connect with one’s heritage and learn about the world around you is endlessly enriching. The following cultural expedition centers Jewish identity and history in Mexico City, a vibrant cultural hub with a deep-rooted Jewish presence and dynamic diaspora.

Mexico City, with its deep-rooted Jewish presence, offers an ideal destination to learn about Jewish identity, heritage, and connection. Home to over 50,000 Jews, Mexico City’s Jewish community is one of the largest in Latin America. Jews arrived in Mexico in the 16th century from Spain and Portugal, followed by Europe in the 1800s, Eastern Europe specifically in the 1920s, and a wave of Middle Eastern Jews during the 20th century. Travelers will be given a unique opportunity to witness the resilience, perseverance, and cultural adaptability of Jewish people, in addition to their enormous contributions to Mexican society.
Our journey to Mexico City is ideal for travelers who wish to:

Travelers will stay in the historic neighborhood of Polanco, home to several synagogues, kosher restaurants, Jewish schools, and community centers. Its central location also provides easy access to the city’s historical landmarks, museums, and neighborhoods.

We will spend the second day exploring Teotihuacán, known for its massive pyramids, and learning about the history of Mesoamerican culture.

The next day, we will visit the Jewish Quarter of Mexico City and the Justo Sierra synagogue, an important cultural site that showcases the history and traditions of the Jewish community in Mexico.

On our fourth day, we will tour the architecture of the Historic Center of Mexico City, focusing on its murals in places like Palacio de Bellas Artes.

The next day begins at the CDIJUM, which preserves the history and heritage of the Jewish community in Mexico through documents, photographs, and archival materials. We will then visit the CDI Centro Deportivo Israelita, the Mexican Jewish Community Center.

We will visit the National Museum of Anthropology and tour Castillo de Chapultepec. That night, we will organize an enriching group Shabbat dinner and services for travelers and an opportunity to celebrate Shabbat at one of the temples in Mexico City.

This final day invites students to explore the ancient canals in Xochimilco on trajineras and stroll nearby through Coyoacán’s leafy plazas, artisan markets, and colonial streets. Later, we will visit Frida Kahlo’s museum.

Our Jewish Heritage Tour stands apart by:

“We had an amazing time on the magical…trip to Mexico with La Capitana herself. The city was in its full regalia overflowing with the flowers … and our week was filled with the vibrant colors, food and culture found only in Mexico. Lorenza did an incredible job curating this wonderful trip and it included activities and visits to artisans that we would not have been able to organize on our own. I left knowing I genuinely would recommend this trip to anyone interested in exploring this slice of Mexico and especially during the beautiful celebration of Dias de los Muertos. Lorenza made this trip feel effortless, fun and unforgettable.”
New York City, NY

The pride Lorenza had in sharing your country and wanting everyone to have a great experience made it really special for all of us. It was really clear[she put a lot of effort into selecting the things to do and the people [she] hired to make sure it was the best experience for us. We had an amazing time and Lorenza did just an awesome job. It truly was one of our favorite trips we’ve ever been on and that was not only because of [her] great planning and execution but also because of the passion Lorenza brought to showing us her country. Can’t wait for the next trip!
